Udyam Registration is the official government registration for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in India — introduced in July 2020, replacing the older Udyog Aadhaar system. Unlock India's MSME Benefits — Free Registration in Minutes

India has over 63 million MSMEs — the backbone of the economy contributing 30% of GDP and 48% of exports. The government offers a wide range of financial and regulatory benefits exclusively to registered MSMEs. Without Udyam Registration, your business cannot access priority sector lending, MSME schemes, collateral-free loans, and government procurement set-asides. Udyam Registration is entirely free, instant, and paperless — using PAN and Aadhaar for verification. There is no renewal needed; the certificate is valid for the lifetime of the enterprise. Our team assists with registration setup, classification, and leveraging MSME benefits.

Critical: MSME Udyam Registration must be updated whenever turnover or investment in plant & machinery crosses the classification threshold (Micro → Small → Medium). Failure to update means you retain the old classification — potentially claiming scheme benefits you're no longer eligible for, which amounts to misrepresentation and can attract recovery of benefits with interest.

Udyam Registration

Free, online, permanent

Registration on udyamregistration.gov.in using PAN and Aadhaar. The Udyam Registration Certificate is issued instantly with a unique Udyam Registration Number (URN) — the official MSME identity.

MSME Classification

Micro, Small, or Medium

Classification is based on investment in plant & machinery (for manufacturers) or equipment (for service providers) and annual turnover. Correct classification determines the specific benefits your enterprise qualifies for.

Udyam Certificate for Tenders

Mandatory for government procurement

Government tenders with MSME set-asides and price preference provisions require Udyam Certificate submission. We provide the certificate and advise on MSME-specific tender eligibility.

Migration from Udyog Aadhaar

Update existing registration

Businesses registered under the old Udyog Aadhaar (UAM) system must migrate to Udyam Registration. The migration is straightforward and preserves continuity of MSME benefits.

Eligibility Criteria

MSME Classification Criteria

MSME classification is based on investment and turnover thresholds.

1

Micro Enterprise

Investment in plant & machinery or equipment does not exceed ₹1 crore AND annual turnover does not exceed ₹5 crores. Covers most small businesses, home-based enterprises, and individual service providers.

2

Small Enterprise

Investment does not exceed ₹10 crores AND annual turnover does not exceed ₹50 crores. Covers established small manufacturers, growing service businesses, and regional trade companies.

3

Medium Enterprise

Investment does not exceed ₹50 crores AND annual turnover does not exceed ₹250 crores. Covers substantial manufacturers and service providers below the large corporate scale.

4

All Business Structures

Sole proprietorships, partnerships, LLPs, companies, trusts, and cooperative societies can all register as MSMEs — provided they meet the classification thresholds.

Key Benefits

MSME Benefits You Unlock With Udyam Registration

Udyam Registration unlocks a comprehensive ecosystem of financial and regulatory benefits.

01

Priority Sector Lending

Banks are mandated to lend 7.5% of their adjusted net credit to MSMEs — giving registered MSMEs preferential access to business loans, working capital, and term loans at competitive rates.

02

CGTMSE Collateral-Free Loans

MSME loans up to ₹2 crores can be obtained without collateral under the CGTMSE (Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises) scheme — available only to Udyam-registered businesses.

03

45-Day Payment Protection

Large buyers must pay MSME suppliers within 45 days under the MSMED Act. Delayed payments attract compound interest at 3× the bank rate. Udyam Registration is required to enforce this protection.

04

Government Tender Benefits

25% of all central government tenders are reserved for MSMEs. Price preference of 15% is available in public procurement. Bid security exemptions reduce upfront tender costs.

05

Reduced Fees

MSMEs receive up to 80% rebate on patent filing fees, 50% rebate on trademark filing fees, and significantly reduced rates for quality certifications (BIS, ISO). These savings compound across all IP filings.

06

Government Scheme Access

PMEGP, PMFME, Credit Linked Capital Subsidy Scheme, Technology Upgradation Fund, and dozens of state-level MSME subsidy schemes are exclusively available to Udyam-registered enterprises.

1
Step 1 of 6

Collect PAN & Aadhaar

Ensure the applicant's PAN and Aadhaar are ready. For companies and LLPs, the company's PAN is used. For proprietorships and partnerships, the proprietor's or managing partner's Aadhaar is required.

2
Step 2 of 6

Visit Udyam Registration Portal

Go to udyamregistration.gov.in. Select 'For New Entrepreneurs who are not Registered yet as MSME or those with EM-II' (or the migration option for Udyog Aadhaar holders).

3
Step 3 of 6

OTP Verification

Enter the Aadhaar number and complete OTP verification on the Aadhaar-linked mobile number. For companies/LLPs, a GSTIN-based login is available.

4
Step 4 of 6

Fill Enterprise Details

Enter enterprise name, type, commencement date, bank account details, NIC code (National Industrial Classification), district industries center (DIC) details, and investment/turnover figures.

5
Step 5 of 6

Submit Application

Submit the form with a final declaration. The portal auto-verifies PAN and GST data from government databases. No documents need to be uploaded.

6
Step 6 of 6

Receive Udyam Certificate

An Udyam Registration Certificate with a unique 12-digit Udyam Registration Number (URN) is generated immediately. Download and share as required for tenders, bank applications, and subsidy schemes.

Document Checklist

What You Need for Udyam Registration

No physical documents are uploaded — everything is verified digitally through PAN and Aadhaar databases.

Identity Verification

Aadhaar Card

Aadhaar of the proprietor, managing partner, or authorized director — linked to an active mobile number for OTP verification.

PAN Card

PAN of the enterprise (company PAN) or individual (for proprietorships). PAN data is auto-fetched from the income tax database.

Udyam Registration is self-declared — there is no government officer verification. However, the portal cross-checks PAN and GST data from government databases. Providing incorrect investment or turnover data to claim a lower classification constitutes a fraudulent declaration.

Post Registration

After Udyam Registration

Udyam Registration is permanent — but requires updating when the enterprise's classification changes.

Annual

Update Registration Annually

Update your Udyam registration annually on the portal with the previous year's turnover and investment data — as filed in your ITR. This ensures your classification remains current and accurate.

Post-registration

Apply for MSME Schemes

Immediately explore applicable central and state government MSME schemes — CGTMSE loans, CLCSS subsidy, technology upgrade grants, and quality certification subsidies. The Udyam certificate is the entry ticket.

After registration

Register on GeM Portal

Register on the Government e-Marketplace (gem.gov.in) using the Udyam number. Government departments procure goods and services through GeM — Udyam-registered MSMEs get preferential listing and price preference.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Udyam Registration on the official portal (udyamregistration.gov.in) is completely free. There is no government fee. Be wary of third-party websites that charge for Udyam Registration — many are unofficial and may issue duplicate or invalid certificates.
Udyog Aadhaar (UAM) was the old MSME registration system. It was replaced by Udyam Registration in July 2020. UAM registrations remained valid until December 31, 2021, after which migration to Udyam was required. New registrations are only on the Udyam system.
Each enterprise registers separately. For sole proprietorships, the proprietor registers using their Aadhaar and the business's PAN. For companies and LLPs, the company registers using the company's PAN. One enterprise gets one Udyam number — you cannot hold multiple Udyam registrations.
If an MSME's turnover or investment exceeds the MSME classification limit, it is no longer an MSME. However, it continues to be treated as MSME for a grace period of 1 year from the date it crosses the threshold — giving time to adjust to non-MSME status.
MSME benefits apply from the date of Udyam Registration — not retroactively. For example, the 45-day payment protection clause applies from the date of registration. Register as early as possible to maximize the period during which benefits apply.
